Human Services Major human services Beacon College's Human Services major prepares students to work in careers helping others. The curriculum enriches the students' understanding of the psychological, intellectual, social, emotional, and cultural development of individuals, families, and groups. To complement their understanding of theory, many courses provide hands-on practical applications.

Field work also provides the benefit of work experience in the student's chosen area. Human Services students gain an appreciation of the complexity of diverse settings while developing the skills required to become members and leaders of this growing industry. The US Department of Labor listed Human Services as one of the top ten jobs on the rise with an estimated 150 percent increase in opportunities as the field of Human Services expands.

 

 
K-6 Education Minor
The Education Minor provides students with an introduction to the classroom setting and the responsibilities of a teacher. This minor is expanded to include a concentration of courses that will enable students to apply for a Florida temporary teaching certificate. Students must graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services and earn a "B" grade or higher in each education course (30 credits) in order to apply for a temporary teaching certificate from the Florida Department of Education.

Students who are enrolled in B.A. majors other than Human Services may also enroll in the K-6 Education Minor. These students are encouraged to meet with their advisor and the Human Services department chair to plan their course of study.
