The Learning Specialists Program
The cornerstone of Educational Support Services is the Learning Specialists Program. Learning Specialists offer weekly
scheduled one-on-one academic mentoring services, which are designed to monitor and enhance students' academic performance and encourage life-long learning. Learning Specialists are trained to provide a variety of mentoring methods, tailored to identify students' individual learning styles. Learning Specialists incorporate proven learning strategies, test-taking tips, critical thinking skills, and self-regulation ideas that support each student's learning style.
The Writing Center
The purpose of the Writing Center is to help all students develop their critical thinking skills through a focus on the reading and writing processes necessary for successful completion of college-level writing. Working closely with faculty members to understand their individual writing assignments, the Writing Center offers assistance and support for every phase of the writing process. Assistance is available through one-on-one consultations, as well as through the utilization of assistive reading and writing technology. The Writing Center is equipped with Kurzweil Readers, Dragon Speak, Via Voice, Inspiration, ClassMate Reader, and Editor.
Intellectual Honesty
Intellectual honesty is the cornerstone of scholarship and collegiate integrity. It requires that the contributions of others be acknowledged and cited. Beacon College demands intellectual honesty in all academic publications and projects.
