How To Apply
The successful Beacon student applicant is of average intelligence with a diagnosed learning disability, ADHD, or gifted LD.

The applicant may apply by submitting the completed application to:

Acceptance Deposit & Deadlines:
Beacon College accepts students on a rolling basis with the following preferred application deadlines.

Candidates who apply after the priority deadline are processed on a space available basis. Candidates are encouraged to apply after the deadline dates until spaces are filled. A few spaces are still open. Contac Admissions at 352-638-9731 with questions.

Fall Applicants: May 1 - May 1 deadline is for FAFSA (financial aid forms) only. Applicants may continue to apply to Beacon College until all slots are filled.

Spring Applicants: November 1 - November 1 deadline is for the FAFSA (financial aid forms) only. Applicants may continue to apply to Beacon College until all slots are filled.

Admissions Procedures

The Beacon College Admissions Committee makes all candidacy decisions. In order to give each candidate full consideration, the Committee evaluates applicant files only when they are deemed complete.

The applicant must submit the following items in order to complete her/his admission file:

1. Application & Fee
Submit the completed application form and application fee ($50).

2. College Essay
The essay should be typed or word-processed. Video and audiocassettes are also accepted.

3. Educational Evaluation
Most recent educational evaluation (Adult measure no more than 3 years old)

Evaluations must include:

• A clear diagnosis of learning disability or ADD/HD, or LD Gifted. Please note the following in reference to the definition of students with learning disabilities being defined as students with specific learning disabilities as defined by IDEA 2004 and do not include those learning problems which are due primarily to visual, hearing, motor handicaps, mental retardation, emotional disturbance, environmental disadvantage, or other exceptionalities.

• Wechsler scales (WAIS-IV are preferred) with full scale, cluster, and sub-test scores.

• Achievement assessments (Woodcock Johnson or WIAT are acceptable) with grade equivalence reporting in reading, writing, or mathematics.

4. High School Transcripts/GED
Official high school transcripts indicating a standard high school diploma. A GED is also acceptable. A special high school diploma or a certificate of attendance is not acceptable for admission to Beacon College.

5. College Transcripts
Submit official college transcripts, if applicable.

6. Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required. Recommendations can be written by any of the following: teachers, tutors, guidance counselors, and/or employers.

7. Optional SAT/ACT
Heavy emphasis is not placed on SAT/ACT scores. This information adds to understanding the applicant's educational profile. Scores are not mandatory.
