Quality Enhancement Plan
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requires each institution undergoing reaffirmation of accreditation to submit a Quality Enhancement Plan. The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a document, developed by the institution, that describes a course of action for institutional improvement that is directly related to student learning and crucial to enhancing educational quality.

The faculty, students, and staff of Beacon College explored many possibilities for the QEP. With input from the whole campus community, Beacon College selected critical thinking skill development as the focus our QEP.

"A Learning Institution Focused on Critical Thinking"

Beacon College is the only four-year college in the United States offering academic degree programs exclusively to students with learning disabilities. Because of our special mission, we appreciate the importance of assisting students with learning disabilities in reaching their academic goals and developing the critical thinking skills necessary to contribute to and compete within a modern society.

We understand the special needs of students with learning disabilities. We provide a curriculum taught by instructors trained in richly integrating critical thinking activities in classroom instruction.

Beacon College has chosen the Paul/Elder model for teaching critical thinking because it is clear, concise, and relevant to the needs of our special mission. This approach has resulted in improved critical thinking, not only in the educational domain, but also in everyday reasoning.

Beacon College realizes that simply helping students receive a college degree is not enough. We provide an education that goes beyond learning about a specific discipline or subject matter. The essence of our mission is to teach students how to think critically. We believe our commitment to providing an educational environment rich in critical thinking activities, not only prepares our graduates for success in the workplace, but also assists them in realizing their ultimate potential.
