As Beacon College gets ready for the first on campus Arts Festival, current students were invited to be part of the festivities by submitting their artwork for inclusion in the 2nd annual Student Art Show. This exhibition will be on display in the Kristin Michelle Mason Art Gallery, along with Chuck Novak’s senior profile show “Everything But Me,” from Thursday, April 16th through Saturday, April 18th. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Thursday, which will be held in the gallery from 4-6pm.
Artist Sara Bruce was invited to act as the guest judge for this exhibition. Her background in both painting and sculpture made her uniquely qualified to evaluate the work of Beacon students. Bruce received her BFA at the University of Texas at Tyler and her MFA at the Alfred University School of Art and Design in New York.
Criteria used for judging the students’ work included the craftsmanship of the design as well as the perceived amount of time and attention to detail dedicated to the process of creating the final product. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Best 3D, and Best 2D, and there will also be several honorable mentions. The winners will receive cash awards. Award winners will be announced at the Thursday evening reception.
Senior Chuck Novak will have his solo show adjacent to the student show as the final requirement for earning a degree
Local high school students will have their own gallery exhibition in Burbank Hall (formerly the Social Security Building), located at 118 East Main Street. The public is welcome to tour these exhibitions from Thursday, April 16th through Saturday, April 18th as well as attend either of the receptions.
Other opportunities for celebrating the arts at the Beacon College Arts Festival include participating in workshops taught by Beacon professors; sidewalk chalk art led by Beacon students; and a food art demonstration courtesy of Beacon College Executive Chef Anont Tannarong.
