President George J. Hagerty and communications director Darryl E. Owens partnered to win two awards, while Owens also collected a solo win in the regional contest.
Local FPRA chapters conduct The Image Awards annually by local chapters of the Florida Public Relations Association to recognize outstanding public relations programs in local hometown markets and encourage and promote the development of public relations professionalism in Florida.
The Ocala Chapter in conjunction with the Lake Chapter and Volusia/Flagler Chapter conducted the regional competition which salutes the area’s superlative work in four main divisions:
- Public relations programs
- Collateral of public relations
- Audio/visual tools of public relations
- Student projects in public relations
An entry consists of a two-page summary of the program, the tool or project, and supporting materials. Judges for the local competition are qualified, experienced, and accredited PR professionals from a neighboring FPRA chapter.
Meanwhile, Hagerty and Owens earned an Image Award in the Collateral Tools of Public Relations — Brochure category for the 2020 EASE Grant Booklet. The booklet was created to convince Florida legislators of the value of preserving the EASE grant, which helps students who prefer an education at a private college like Beacon better afford their choice. Owens developed, managed, and edited the project while Hagerty authored much of the introductory sections of the booklet.
Image Awards may be presented to the top-scoring entry in each category, provided it meets the predetermined criteria of excellence.
Finally, the duo capped the evening by bringing home a Grand Image Award in the Collateral Tools of Public Relations — Brochure category for the 2020 EASE Grant Booklet. The top-scoring entry in each division receives a Grand Image Award.
